DESIGN AND INNOVATION
Every single element of every single Lexus is created with an unrelenting focus on innovation, in tandem with a unique design language that sets Lexus apart from other motor vehicle manufacturers. From the very beginning Lexus was conceived to set new standards within the automotive world, and this pursuit continues today.
L finesse, our unique design language
Lexus engineers understand that exceptional design should also
touch you on an emotional level. This philosophy led to the
creation of L finesse, which stands for 'Leading edge with
finesse'. Strikingly clean lines create an elegant simplicity,
while a range of intelligent design features welcome the driver
into the cabin.
Simon Humphries, Global Head of Design, explains the emotional
impact of Lexus' design language as, "L finesse is everything
that can't be measured by numbers and specifications. It is
what's intangible about Lexus. The core of the Lexus design
philosophy is to be technologically advanced yet humanised, to
create striking design but still be artistic yet
unpretentious."
L finesse design blends seamlessly with every element of a Lexus
vehicle to create a singular driving experience.

A glimpse into the future
While creating exceptional vehicles today, our engineers also look to the future of design and build concept vehicles that provide us with a tantalising glimpse of the Lexus design direction of tomorrow. Our pursuit of perfection sees us making continuous improvements each day, and our future vehicles are an important part of this process.

Craftsmanship anchored in centuries-old tradition
The Lexus Tahara Plant in Japan utilises the unique skills of an
elite team of 10 Master Craftsmen or 'Takumi', a centuries-old
tradition of artisans in Japanese manufacture. The Takumi
supervise the build quality of every LS 460 built.
Each Takumi plays a different role, drawing on their special
skill, and checks 10 criteria with an incredible attention to
detail, ensuring the highest standards of construction Lexus is
renowned for.
One Takumi, for example, personally inspects every engine. Once
assembled, the engine is turned on and the Takumi uses a
stethoscope to determine even the slightest variations in sound,
and then makes any necessary adjustments.
No detail too small
For some, good enough is acceptable. At Lexus, every detail, no matter how small, is given equal importance. Every bolt used in every Lexus, for example, has a tiny sliver of steel scooped from the head reducing the overall weight of the vehicle by up to 9 kilograms. This helps to improve fuel efficiency and contributes to the exceptional performance of each vehicle in the Lexus range.
