Formidable performance
The extraordinary engine is the result of an alliance formed by IS F's Chief Engineer Yukihiko Yaguchi and an engineer from Yamaha's Formula One engine program. Plant the throttle and the high output, 5.0 litre V8 engine develops 311kW of power at 6,600rpm and 505Nm of torque at 5,200rpm, with a ripping maximum engine speed of 6,800rpm. Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) retunes the inlet and exhaust camshafts in response to changes in engine speed. The inlet camshafts are electric motor driven (VVT-iE), which optimises the intake timing for head-snapping low end torque and high end power, while cutting fuel consumption to 11.4 litres per 100km.1
Race-inspired engine technology
High flow cylinder heads with titanium intake valves enable the V8 engine to respond instantly to your commands. The two stage intake system is another Lexus first. At lower engine speed, the engine only uses the primary port, which increases air velocity for smoother bottom-end power and torque. As engine speed rises, both ports open to boost high-end power output. Heavy duty oil and transmission fluid coolers help the engine and transmission cope with heat stress from sustained race conditions. The scavenge oil pump keeps the oil circulating to critical engine components even under the increased G-forces of high speed cornering.
Sequential eight speed automatic transmission
Control of the eight speed sequential automatic transmission is right at your fingertips with paddle shifters. Whether you're in normal or sequential shifting mode, you can select gears without taking your hands from the steering wheel. Artificial Intelligence Shift Control intuitively anticipates and selects the best gear to suit your driving style and the driving conditions. A mechanical limited slip differential optimises rear wheel traction.
Sports Direct Shifts
The Sports Direct Shift (SPDS) feature in the IS F creates an exhilarating race-inspired experience. IS F's M mode provides clutchless manual style driving, while the D mode is automatic. In M mode, the torque converter is in constant lock-up in second through eighth gear for crisp 0.1 second upshifts using the paddle shifters - among the fastest of any four door sedan in the world. In M mode, downshifts of just 0.3 seconds are accompanied by precise, automated throttle blips that match engine revs to the IS F's speed.
Unleash your wild side with Sport mode
The Sport mode integrates the engine, transmission, electric power steering and VDIM control, for optimum sports driving. In 'Sport' mode the control of VSC and TRC is moderated to become less intrusive, while control of the related systems like engine, transmission and steering assist are also modified for higher performance driving.
Electric Power Steering
Unlike conventional power steering, the IS F's power steering uses electric energy. This means energy is consumed only when you turn the wheel, contributing to the vehicle's overall fuel economy.
Road-hugging suspension system
Push the IS F into a corner and you'll feel it anticipate your commands, thanks to its responsive chassis and suspension. Fine-tuning at some of the world's fastest racetracks has resulted in large stabiliser bars, which give you an athletic and firm feel on corners and superior stability at racetrack speeds. Front double-wishbone and rear multi-link suspension enhance the IS F's grip, stability, responsiveness and handling.
