LEXUS REVEALS ALL NEW IS MODEL

Lexus has revealed its all new IS model - the first Lexus to feature an all-new 2.5-litre petrol Direct Injection V6 with Dual VVT-i.

Revealed globally in Geneva this month, the advanced V6 petrol engine is from the same family as the three-litre V6 available in the just-released Lexus GS300 line.

The new 2.5-litre V6 will produce approximately 150kW and 250Nm of torque.

The new Lexus IS is a crucial model in the continuing development of the luxury brand. It continues the IS line's reputation for fine handling, has a new engine, and follows the new Lexus GS line, with new styling from the L-Finesse design direction.

As with the current Lexus IS line, the next generation IS will feature strong cornering performance and straight line stability.

It will also incorporate class-leading technology flowdowns from other Lexus models.

These benefits include radar-controlled Active Cruise Control, from the new GS line and flagship LS430; and the Adaptive Front headlight System, from Lexus LS430, RX330, SC430 and new GS line - which helps drivers 'see around corners.'

New IS will also feature 10 airbags as standard, including a first-in-segment double knee airbag.

A 2.2-litre all aluminium diesel engine was also announced for the European market, although no decision has been taken yet on introduction of the Lexus diesel engine to Australia.

Local IS specification and pricing have not yet been determined and are scheduled to be announced in late 2005.
