Lexus Design Pavilion On Pole Position At Flemington

Lexus Pavilion at the Melbourne Cup 2018

The renowned Lexus Design Pavilion has assumed the coveted "pole position" within the world-famous Birdcage at Flemington Racecourse, in keeping with the luxury lifestyle brand's new five-year sponsorship of the Lexus Melbourne Cup.

Lexus this year became only the fourth principal partner of the Victoria Racing Club in its 157-year history, a partnership that includes naming rights sponsorship of the race that stops a nation™.

The Lexus Design Pavilion was created to deliver an experiential masterpiece that combines world-class design with exhilarating dining and hospitality experiences during the celebrated Melbourne Cup Carnival.

The striking three-story structure features a bold, minimalist exterior juxtaposed with a stimulating and texturally rich interior, filled with natural light.

It is inspired by the craftsmanship found in every Lexus vehicle, including the innovative UX - the brand's all-new luxury compact SUV that will be shown to the Australian public for the first time at Flemington, ahead of arriving in local dealerships towards the end of the month.

Another highlight in this year's Pavilion will be the Australian premiere of the LF-1 Limitless - a dramatic concept vehicle that showcases the potential for a future Lexus flagship crossover vehicle.

Lexus Australia chief executive Scott Thompson the Lexus Design Pavilion will enable guests to experience an unprecedented level of excellence across every aspect - from design to culinary.

"Our new pole position within the Birdcage celebrates the Lexus Melbourne
Cup and reaffirms our pledge to progressive luxury and amazing experiences," Mr Thompson said.

Influential Lexus ambassadors will mingle with guests in the Pavilion across the week-long carnival - Victoria Derby, Lexus Melbourne Cup, Oaks and Stakes Days.

They include racing royalty Emma Freedman and Kate Waterhouse, media personality and businesswoman Megan Gale, two-time Rugby World Cup-winning captain John Eales and two-time NRL premiership-winning player Anthony Minichiello.

A special Lexus guest of honour at this year's Victoria Derby Day is Australian icon and businesswoman Elle Macpherson who shares the luxury carmaker's core brand values of being progressive, innovative and sophisticated.

Pavilion guests will be greeted by a grand staircase that leads to an expansive balcony overlooking the famous track, making the most of the premier location.

Throughout the structure, they will be treated to bespoke lighting and furniture pieces including exclusively moulded concrete dining tables.

Features include oversized glass pieces suspended from the ceiling to magnify and draw attention to the stunning floral displays throughout the Pavilion.

Lexus design ambassador and acclaimed industrial designer Henry Wilson said the Lexus Design Pavilion is one of Australia's superior design events.

"Each year, Lexus evolves the harmony between Japanese humility and craftsmanship, reflected in the choice of exceptional collaborators and the new structure itself."

World-class culinary experiences that push the boundaries have been curated by eminent chefs and Lexus ambassadors Ben Shewry and Neil Perry, progressive new Melbourne restaurant Future Future and Shaun Quade of Lume.

The third level of the Lexus Design Pavilion will house the largest seated dining room within a Birdcage enclosure, holding up to 76 guests at a time.
