LEXUS LC 500 DOMINATES SUZUKA PODIUM

Lexus LC 500, Suzuka

Lexus has recorded a double victory in the latest round of the Super GT series with a LC 500 clean sweep of the GT500 podium and a come-from-behind victory for a RC F GT3 in the GT300 class.

The LC 500 race cars demonstrated their strength during the 300km GT500 race at Suzuka, taking six of the top seven spots. Kazuki Nakajima and Yuhi Sekiguchi dominated in the No. 36 Lexus LC 500 of LEXUS TEAM au TOM's, taking pole position, setting the fastest lap and leading throughout the race except for the mid-race pit cycles. While a safety-car period reduced their lead, they carefully controlled their pace to manage tyre wear, then gradually pulled clear of a furious battle for second place between two Lexus LC 500 stablemates.

With just five laps remaining in the 300km race, the No. 37 LEXUS TEAM KeePer TOM'S LC 500 (Ryo Hirakawa and Nick Cassidy) made a decisive move in traffic. They held on for second place ahead of the No. 6 LEXUS TEAM LE MANS WAKO'S LC 500 (Kazuya Oshima and Kenta Yamashita). Sixth place was good enough for Yuji Tachikawa and Hiroaki Ishiura to move to the top of the drivers' championship in the No. 38 LEXUS TEAM ZENT CERUMO LC 500.

In the GT300 class, the No. 96 K-Tunes Racing RC F GT3 (Morio Nitta and Sena Sakaguchi) came from behind to post a second victory in three races, after winning the rain-shortened Okayama race in April.

Nakajima - who heads to the 24 Hours of Le Mans classic next month - said the safety-car period was unlucky, but the pit-stop timing was ideal. "After changing to Yuhi (Sekiguchi), there were some breathtaking scenes, but I knew that he wouldn't let anyone overtake, and he came back in slamming first place," Nakajima said. "It really was a perfect race."
